This assignment has two parts: send an initial email and reply to an email that you receive.

Part #1

Send/write your initial email.

 

You are an international student who is traveling to Croatia. You are making plans for your trip and you have decided to send an email to your new roommate. Follow the text from the class session as a model and include the following:

-       Where are you going (B-C-M-S country)

o   Based on your choice of the country, find a school that offers language classes for international students (example: Croaticum in Croatia)

-       When are you going

o   Specific semester (and months) based on your findings

-       Express your plans (what would you like to do, where do you want to go)

o   This refers to the country in which you are going to study

-       Ask for advice on where to go

o   Include at least one element for each of the remaining countries

-       Express your interests

-       Ask some general final question to your new roommate

-       Properly finish your email

 

Part #2

Write your response to an email that you received

 

Follow the text from the class session as a model and include the following:

-       Start your email by expressing your excitement

-       State that you are willing to help and that you are sure you can provide some help

-       Give some comments on the places your future roommate wants to see in your home country

-       Provide suggestions on what places to see/visit in other countries

-       Be sure to answer the final general question that your new roommate asked in his/her initial email

-       Properly finish your email

Meet with another student and write a dialogue on the given topic.

Instructions (elements to include):

-       Meeting for the first time

-       You are both international students in the same (B-C-M-S) country/city

-       What do you study?

-       Why do you also study BCMS?

-       Where do you live (apt, house…) in B-C-M-S? Provide information about this.

o   Use a real address, place (Google/search for it)

o   Rooms

o   Looks/condition

o   Floor

o   Part of the city

o   Express your opinion about the place (do you like it or not)

o   Do you share your place with another student?

-       What are your interests?

-       Your free time

-       Based on your classmate’s interests, give few suggestions what to see and what to do in the city (you will need to Google/search this part)

o   Use existing/real places

o   Provide the address

-       Ask about famous people and places in the country

o   You should provide places and people that would be interesting to your classmate (according to his/her interests)

-       Express your opinion/desire for visiting other BCMS-speaking countries

o   Ask when is the best time to go there (season and months)

o   What is the best place to go?

-       Provide information on those countries (people/places) – based on your classmate’s interests

-       Finish your dialogue with an invitation to do something/go somewhere.

o   This should be something closely related to the interests you both have in common

o   It should be an existing (a real) place in the city that you have chosen to be in this dialogue

o   Provide information (address) about the place you are suggesting
